In the second edition of his new video blog, Northeastern director of athletics Peter Roby addresses the developing situation at the University of Maryland and the difficult budgetary decisions that department now faces, including the prospect of cutting up to 10 varsity sports programs. Roby discusses the implications of such a decision. He also talks about the challenges of adding expenses through the cost of attendance stipend that was passed by the NCAA within the last month. He evaluates alternatives, such as the existing Pell Grant program, and speaks frankly about the ongoing discussions at Northeastern surrounding the decision to offer, or not offer, the stipend.

In this video blog, Northeastern University Director of Athletics Peter Roby discusses the state of current affairs in college athletics. Roby provides his thoughts on the developing situation at Penn State, including some initial lessons that might be learned by those in athletic departments across the country. He also provides some insight into the NCAA structure and NCAA reform. Specifically, he talks about the NCAA Board of Director's recent decision to approve legislation that permits a $2,000 stipend to student-athletes who are awarded full athletic scholarships. This video is the first in what is planned to be a weekly series.
